Momo I am. I am momo. I love the name. Its tucked away in this little corner right off Lake Gardens and the first thing that will hit you is the fact that this place is PACKED to the hilt. The person in charge comes out, or you go to him, quickly place your orders and then you wait. I have been here on two separate occasions and have been amazed by their understanding of food and logical presentation.
A quick look at the menu reveals that the prices are quite cheap, and the person concerned is aware of a very South East Asian influence on his food. The breath of a wok, or "wok hei" is the semi-char that you get when frying over ridiculously high heat over a wok, and the food has a decided South East Asian influence to it, rather than Tibetan, apart from the momos.
Which brings us to the momos.
This plateful of porky goodness costs you about 55/-. They are steamed, succulent, served with a light broth and a spoonful of dallay chilli sauce (Dallay or fireball chillies are pasted together with garlic and salt). I am glad to say that the sauce is super-yum and totally amazing with the soft momos. As for the steamed momos, they are succulent, melt-in-your-mouth and incredibly moreish if I might borrow the term from a certain someone (L, are you listening??).
The Chicken Thukpa (100/-) that they serve here is almost pho-like. It is a big bowl of fabulously tasty hot broth, with freshly cooked noodle, an assortment of fresh julienned vegetables and crumbly minced meat, with a boiled egg half on one side. Together with a batch of the hot sauce and soy sauce, they often make my day, and so, I have resorted to packing them for home as well.
I have packed home food too and here is where I would love to add the logic bit. They actually pack the broth and the noodle, mincemeat and veg separately. HOW thoughtful is that? This makes sure that when I want to eat, I just have to heat the broth, put in everything, and slurp away. And the huge serving often makes for two meals for me. A packet full of the hot sauce is provided with the food, and the combination just makes my day most of the times. Now I want to live near Lake Gardens because they also do home deliveries.
In short, HEART!
